Helderberg Manor Retirement Village Area and Lifestyle
Somerset West, along with neighbouring towns Gordons Bay and Strand, is situated in the Helderberg Basin. This is a peaceful setting, with lofty mountains behind and the deep blue sea of False Bay, with its long white beaches, in front. Many of the mountain slopes are covered in vineyards and lush gardens, while Somerset West itself has an abundance of trees. There are a number of nature reserves close by, including the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve with its 1 600 fynbos species. Leading out of Gordons Bay is one of the world's most beautiful coastal roads, hugging False Bay all the way to the iconic Hangklip beyond Pringle Bay. The N2 runs through Somerset West and leads to Cape Town (30 minutes) and the international airport (15 minutes) in one direction, and up scenic Sir Lowry's Pass towards Elgin and Grabouw in the other.
Ten of S.A.'s top golf courses are 40 minutes or less from Somerset West, including Arabella Western Cape, Erinvale, De Zalze Stellenbosch, Devonvale, Morgenster, Pearl Valley and Boschenmeer. For the wine connoisseur, the Helderberg area boasts prestigious Vergelegen and Lourensford wine estates, while 15 minutes away is the famous Stellenbosch Wine Route.
One can never finish exploring the Western Cape coast and countryside around Helderberg Manor. The only question is where to start.
